It's Been a Long Time
I’ve been getting some new subscribers despite my inactivity.
I appreciate them and the old ones too.
I’ve had a rough stretch creatively.
The biggest problem for me is that my collaborator, Journey, likely will not be painting for a while. Maybe not for months or years. He’s got his own issues--I understand and don’t blame him. He’s like a brother to me, and I know that when he’s ready, we’ll be working together again, but I have a hard time creating without him.
Another problem is that I have a new job, and I’m still learning, and it’s draining.
But work is getting better, and I want to write and create, and that’s what I’m going to do.
Right now, I’m running games for two groups: One is a bunch of old, experienced gamers like me, and the other is some kids and their parents, all new to role-playing.
I’m going to playtest my game with the kids and their parents because most RPGs are already aimed at experienced players, because I want a game with truly simple, elegant rules. I don’t think I have to design my own rules set. I have a couple I’m looking at right now -- the “without Number” rules from Kevin Crawford, which combines a bit of old D&D, Traveler, newer D&D stuff, and Monte Cook’s Cypher System, which focuses on descriptions, and translates those descriptions into rules. I don’t know which way I’ll go. I like both systems, but I still want to mod them, simplify them (mostly).
Next Steps:
Reread and review my Substack.
Write a proposal—not to send to a publisher, but for myself.
Write an outline.
Next Post: Next week or sooner.
